Vertical aeroponic farming, Aegean scale.
Chlora is a vertically integrated aeroponic farming company producing fresh leafy greens, vegetables and herbs year-round on Greek islands. Closed-loop tower systems use up to 95% less water than conventional farming. Stage 1 launches on Tilos — Europe's first energy self-sufficient island — with 300 aeroponic towers supplied by Agrotonomy (6.7M followers, 10+ EU deployments) in partnership with Slow Food. Stage 2 expands to Symi. Total pipeline: 1,900 towers across five islands by 2030. EU funding (EMFAF, CAP/EAFRD, LEADER) covers 40–60% of capex as non-repayable grants.
Why this, why now
Mayor and Vice Mayor of Tilos are personal contacts. Land owners known personally and willing to sell. Greek/Italian grant consultant and Rhodes accountant already engaged.
Conventional Mediterranean farming is seasonal. Chlora's climate-controlled vertical aeroponic system produces 12 months a year. Winter export to the UK captures the highest-margin window when European outdoor production is at its lowest.
Aeroponics scores maximum points on Green Deal and Farm to Fork criteria. Island location gives priority weighting in CAP/EAFRD and LEADER scoring.
The EIB / National Bank of Greece €200M agriculture programme, launched January 2026, provides subsidised lending for the Greek operating entity. CEO ex-Mediobanca, BNP Paribas, HSBC.
