Sun, wind, and a pump: pairing green energy with vertical farms.

A Tower Farm runs on the same watts a kitchen fridge consumes. Pair it with island solar and the food itself becomes carbon-negative.

Vertical farming has a public-relations problem: people assume it means a black warehouse glowing with LEDs, drinking grid electricity from a coal plant. That model exists, but it is not ours. Our Tower Farms grow outdoors under the Aegean sun. The only electricity they need is for the small recirculating pump — and that runs on the island's own solar.

The numbers

A single tower's pump draws about 25 watts on a cycle of roughly 3 minutes on, 12 minutes off. Over a year, that is less electricity than a single household refrigerator. Multiply by 200 towers in a starter Tilos installation and you are still inside the daily output of a modest rooftop solar array.

Why this pairing is the future

Greek islands have two abundant resources: sunlight and wind. They also have two scarcities: water and arable land. Aeroponic Tower Farms run on the abundant and conserve the scarce. The pairing is so clean it almost feels obvious in hindsight: take the energy the island already generates for free and use it to turn 12 litres of recirculating water into a kilo of fresh food.
